REFLECTION
EXPERIENCES
Learning Typography was quite a rewarding experience for me as I get to enhanced my design skills and have a deeper understanding on Typography. Starting a new module on typography was like entering a secret world that I never knew existed. At first, I didn't know that we can learn and be so creative with just fonts, but it quickly turned into a fascinating exploration of design and communication.
I felt a bit confusing at first, figuring out how to adjust spaces between letters and lines as well as understanding kerning, leading, and tracking. However by practicing and getting feedbacks from my lecturers, Mr Vinod and Ms Low, I learned and improved along the way.
OBSERVATIONS
I found out that Typography isn't just about selecting fonts, it's about creating a hierarchy that guides the reader's eye through the content. For example, experimenting with font sizes, weights, and styles. Besides, I also discovered how subtle changes to a font in arrangement can impact the visual appeal and message of a piece of text.
I also started noticing the use for Typography in our daily life. For instance, advertisement billboards, signs, logos, websites and books. It's like undercovering or seeing something I once didn't even pay a slightest attention to even though it was there all along.
FINDINGS
One of the most profound revelations during this learning experience was understanding the power that a fonts hold in sending out messages to the readers. Fonts are not just a mere characters, they have their own styles and attitudes that can shape the tone, mood, and perception of a written content. From the elegance of serif fonts to the modernity of sans-serif, each typeface carries a unique personality.
CONCLUSION
To conclude, my journey through the Typography module has been an eye-opening adventure as I learnt that Typography is not just about the letters. I improved and moved forward from our first task where I drew thousands of sketches for my first type expression task and created a gif for the first time. After that, learning the important of kerning, leading, and tracking for our text formatting task as well as creating a heading for our editorial text formatting task. Lastly, creating our own fonts as our final task to end the module on a high note. I was quite grateful to meet Ms Low and Mr Vinod as our lecturers for the modules as I learnt quite a lot from them as well as getting guidance's and feedbacks from them patiently. Throughout the 14 weeks, my growth in my knowledges and technical skills for Typography have bestowed me the ability to see and understand the world of typography that surrounds us every day more better.
