INSTRUCTIONS

FINAL TASK

EXERCISE⇒ SELF-TITLED

For our final exercise, Mr Martin and Mr Hafiz introduced Self-Titled to us, which we are challenged to create a visually captivating self-portrait that combines elements of Photoshop, illustration, and typography.

For my poster, I wanted to do something more creative and imagination style of a poster like from a fairy tale. The concept for my poster is to express my love in music and my passion in computer games.


RESEARCH

To have a head start, I started by doing some research on Pinterest and Google to have an idea on examples of self portrait designs.

IDEAS AND ELEMENTS

My Portrait Holding A Book
  • I wanted to express my poster as I’m telling a story about me and my passion to the viewers
The Design For The Music Path & Music Notes (Middle)
  • I wanted to express the creative and imagination thoughts in my mind therefore, I designed the music path appearing out from the book and the music notes coming out one by one as the path appears.
Music Notes
  • I added music notes and animated them to float around in the poster as I wanted to express the beauty and freedom feeling music present.
Games Elements
  • I added Pink Bean and Orange Mushroom from Maplestory, a game that I played since I was only 4 years old till now to express my passion in gaming.
Font Arrangement
  • I added my fonts on a music path and animate it to flow along the path as I wanted to imitate the lyrics of the a song.
Background Illustration
  • I chose an indoor environment for my background as I would like to express that I’m more an indoor person.
DIGITIZATION
After finalizing and getting Mr Martin's and Mr Hafiz's feedback for my final sketch, I started the digitizing.

FINAL DIGITIZATION

After getting feedbacks from Mr Martin and Mr Hafiz's, I improved my poster layout and finalize my final digitization with layout 1.

ANIMATION

After completing the final digitization, I began with Mr Martin's tutorial video on how to animate posters using After Effect. After understanding the concept, I started trying it. We were instructed to animate a 15 second video and add music to it.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 12

Feedback by Mr Hafiz

  • The idea is good
  • Need to tighten up composition as there are a lot of negative space
  • Focus more on the musical lines and expressive typography

  • Advised to animate layout 1

REFLECTION

Working on the Self-Titled project has been a fun ride where I got to express the real me. I named my poster as This Is Me as I wanted to express my love in music and my passion in computer games. I also wanted to send out the message that it’s alright to slow down our rhythm in life sometimes and just enjoy the moment with activities we really loved especially for our current generation. Life would be so exhausting and boring if we couldn’t even enjoy something we really loved. I also found it interesting that we get to be creative with our own portrait and learned new skills like using After Effects for animation. This final project was an upgraded challenge version for me as we need to combine the skills from three module which is, Illustration, Photoshop, After Effect and Typography however with the guidance I got from Mr Martin, Mr Hafiz and my friends, I managed to finish the tasks.
