PROJECT 3⇒ STORYBOARDING & ANIMATICS
For third project, Mr Kamal introduced Storyboarding & Animatics to us which we will produce a 1-3 minute animatics storyboard based on your approved short animation.
The completed animatic should be in video format and the technical
requirement are as below:
- Screen Resolution 1080p (Full HD), 16:9(Wide Screen)
- Frame Rate 25fps
- Field Option Progressive Scan
- Audio Quality 48kHZ, 16-bits stereo
- Compression H.264
- Submission Students are to submit the completed storyboard as *.pdf format and animatic in video format (*.mov or *.mp4).
THUMBNAIL DRAWING
To have a head start on my project, I started by drafting out the thumbnail sketches to lay the groundwork for my visual storytelling. I sketched out rough ideas and concepts for various scenes as the brainstorming process. After finishing brainstorming and sketching, I consulted Mr Kamal. He stated that the storyline looks straightforward and easy to understand therefore, I continue with the next step.DIGITIZATION
After getting a green light from Mr Kamal, I started on the digitize
process. It was my first time using a drawing tablet where I borrowed from
Mr Kamal therefore, the process was quite interesting. There were many up
and down. But anyway, I stared the digitization process in Adobe
Illustration.
I started with the character design. From the digitization in Project
2, I further involved the characters and create side view top view and
low view.
After creating a few views of the characters, I process on the
animation process, I started creating frame by frame storyboard in
Adobe Illustrator. I had a total of 293 storyboards by the end of
illustrating them out. 2 challenges I faced was limited time in
producing a 'perfect' work as I kept wanting to reillustrate or
reanime the frame which has caused me to not finish by the deadline.
The second challenge was to colour the main characters or the scenes
as the the stroke I designed them to be was not connected properly
which cause a huge amount time wasted in this stage.
After completing the digitization and the colouring process, I export
all the files to Adobe Premiere Pro, where I used the platform to
create the animation. The main reason for choosing Adobe Premiere Pro
was the convenience of the editing process and the effects tools.
After editing the video, I added in some transitions to some of the
scenes to make the scenes look more natural.
After editing the animation, I began audio sourcing to find sound
effects or ambiences suitable for the animation.
Besides, I also added some voice over from myself and edited in Adobe
Audition. For Olivia voice, I added an EQ to my voice. For Mr Teddy, I
added an EQ and Pitch Shifter while for the scary bloody hands, I added
EQ, Pitch Shifter and Echo to my voice.
After compiling all the audio sources, I went back to Adobe Premiere
Pro and slot in all the audio sources. Lastly, I added a tittle and a
quote to the animatics at the end of the animations.
