To have head start, I started doing some research on Youtube.

MOODBOARD

I wanted do a trip related motion graphic. At first, I came out with a Malaysia holiday trip. However, Mr Fauzi recommended to focus in a place as there wasn’t much time as well. Therefore, I chose my hometown, Ipoh as the destination of the car trip.

STORYBOARD

After having an idea on what to do, I started drafting out my storyboard. For my first idea, I wanted to do a motion graphics on tourism destinations for different state in Malaysia. Starting the road trip from the destination aim by the dagger. The car trip will start with packing our language and a road map of the trip. Them scene would be switching between the different destinations and the map plan. Lastly, promoting the different culture in Malaysia and ending it with a quote.

After getting Mr Fauzi's review, he advised that I focus in a destination and suggested to do a video collage as time was quite tight. Therefore, I decided to go for my hometown which is Ipoh, Perak Malaysia. I decided to keep the first part of the idea from the first draft which is the aiming a destination with a dagger and packing our luggage onto the the car. After that, I designed to introduce Ipoh with a short video clip version of the city. Then added in some kinetic typography and some self recorded voice over from me and my friends introducing the famous food in Cantonese language as Cantonese is most spoken in Ipoh. Lastly ending the motion graphic with a photo frame collage video on the famous tourism area to visit.

PROCESS

After finish drafting the storyboard, I started gathering and drawing out all the elements need. I drew out the earth, the world map, Malaysia map, dagger, the car, luggages and the road background in Adobe Illustrator. Then I downloaded seperately as png and import into Adobe After Effect.

After finishing drafting the elements in Adobe Illustrator and gathering the elements needed from Google, I started on the creating and editing process in Adobe After Effect. I started the video from throwing the dagger into the world map and zooming into Malaysia map then specifically to Ipoh.

Then, I animated the luggages dropping down onto the car getting ready for the trip.

After the road trip scene, I inserted in a introduction video on Ipoh. The video gave a briefly view of the the city.

Later on, I add in some kinetic typography effect to the fonts, making the fonts pop in more creatively. Then sliding in the images of the famous food.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 12

  • Mr Fauzi advised to do a more simple motion graphic and focus in a destination and suggested to do a video collage as time was quite tight.

REFLECTION

Working on Abstract Motion has been a fun ride where I got to enhance my skills and knowledge in motion graphics. Besides, it was new experience as it was my first time to do a project without specific requirements and we are encourage to think wild. Moreover, we have the opportunity to analyze and explore different type of other stop motions and see how profesional markets their advertisements. This project was challenging yet interesting for me as I need to combine the motion graphics skills learned however with the guidance I got from Mr Fauzi and my friends, I managed to finish the tasks.
