INTRODUCTION

FINAL PROJECT⇒ INFOGRAPHIC VIDEO ANIMATION

For our final project 1, Mr Fauzi and Mr Shamsul introduced Infographic Video Animation, where we are needed to produce a basic video animation based on Flip group topic research. Using a processed design framework, we will be needed to produce an infographic report to present the given information to a target audience with the purpose of creating awareness (such as Global Warming and Recycle), explaining a process (such as "how to" video) or defining a concept (such as "What is Fast Fashion" and "What is Color Wheel")

In this exercise, we are required to,

Design Considerations:

  • Organization Principles – LATCH and Content Organization
  • Aesthetic Principles – Animation principles
  • Cognitive Principles – Principles of visualization

Output Expectation:

The presentation must be deliberated on, consider each assessment rubric of sorts to your final outcome:
  • Show causality
  • Multivariate graphics and visuals
  • Integrate word number and images
  • Content count
  • Within eyesight
  • Use multiple charts
  • Do not de-quantify
  • Video resolution: 1920px x 1080px HD (min 1.5 mins max 3 mins)
Submission:
  • A ± 3 minute animated infographic uploaded into YouTube (unlisted)
  • Digital compilation into your Google Drive Folder
  • Online posts in your E-portfolio as your reflective studies(Please attach the E-Portfolio link here for submission.)

GROUPING

For our first week, we were introduced to the final project where we were needed to product an infographic animation video as a group of minimum 6 to 10 members. After getting a roughly brief by the lecturers, Mr Fauzi and Mr Shamsul, I proceed on finding my groupmates. I ended up in a group with my friends. Winnie was chosen as the group leader for our group.

IDEATION

After forming a group, we quickly went into discuss our ideation of our topic. At the beginning, we started with a few ideas.

1. How To Bake Macarons
  • A step-by-step process of baking macarons
2. Internet Phone Scams
  • Raising awareness on latest social topic
3. Malaysia Healthy Palette
  • Raising awareness on nutritions
4. The Science Of Insomnia
  • Defining a health issue concept
After some discussion and analysis the pros and cons of each topic, we decided to go for ideation 4 which is The Science of Insomnia as it was a topic most people can relate to easily in this generation.

RESEARCH

After deciding a topic, we proceed with the researching stage. We splitted the task evenly between our members and I got the part of Symptoms of Insomnia.

Symptoms of Insomnia
According to 2019 research, up to 75 percent of older adults experience some symptoms of insomnia.

Insomnia symptoms may include:
  • Having a hard time falling asleep at night.
  • Waking up during the night.
  • Waking up too early.
  • Feeling tired or sleepy during the day.
  • Feeling cranky, depressed or anxious.
  • Having a hard time paying attention, focusing on tasks or remembering.
  • Making more errors or having more accidents.
  • Having ongoing worries about sleep.
Symptoms That Affect You While Awake (Daytime effects)

Because you need sleep to be your best, disruptions like insomnia commonly cause symptoms that affect you while you’re awake. These include:
  • Feeling tired, unwell or sleepy.
  • Delayed responses, such as reacting too slowly when you’re driving.
  • Trouble remembering things.
  • Slowed thought processes, confusion or trouble concentrating
  • Mood disruptions, especially anxiety, depression and irritability.
  • Other disruptions in your work, social activities, hobbies or other routine activities.
Chronic insomnia characteristics
  • The characteristics of insomnia symptoms are also important. If your symptoms have certain characteristics, you may have chronic insomnia. The characteristics include:
Circumstances
  • A chronic insomnia diagnosis requires insomnia without circumstances that would interfere with your ability to sleep (such as changes in work schedule, life events, etc.). Diagnosing insomnia requires having sleep difficulties despite having time and the right environment to do so.
Frequency
  • Chronic insomnia requires you to have insomnia frequently, at least three times per week.
Duration
  • Chronic insomnia lasts for at least three months.
  • Insomnia in children
Children and teens can develop insomnia often for the same reasons as adults.

Symptoms can include:
  • daytime sleepiness or restlessness
  • irritability and mood changes
  • repeated disciplinary issues
  • problems with memory and focus

FINAL GROUP RESEARCH COMPILE

PROPOSAL PRESENTATION

After doing research, we proceed on preparing the flip presentation for our ideation using Canva. Our group leader, Winnie mainly helped us compile our research data to the presentation slide and on week 3, it was our turn for presentation.

Thankfully, our presentation turned out smoothly and our idea got a green light from Mr Fauzi and Mr Shamsul.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

After getting a greenlight for our proposal, we split out roles and task for the final project. We divided our roles into a few which is, illustrator who does the illustration for the overall visual, animator who does the animation for the video, script writer who write the script, storyboarder, who draw out the directions for the video and the sound effect designer who got to edit the final video and add sound effects.

We begin by discussing and creatively brainstorming how we would like our video's storyline to be then we split our roles. I got the part to be the scriptwriter and the sound effect designer in the group.

MOODBOARD

After brainstorming our ideation and storyline, we begin on drafting our moodboard. For the moodboard, we placed references, ideas and sketches in figjam.

1. Illustration Style
  • A minimalistic yet detailed style
  • Avoiding overly complex backgrounds to keep the focus on the main information.
  • Rounded and friendly character designs to make the information approachable.
2. Typography:
  • Josefin Sans (Titles, Subtitles And Body Text)
  • Gloria Hallelujah (Dialogs)

STORYBOARD

After deciding on the moodboard. Winnie proceeded on sketching out our idea into a storyboard.

SCRIPT

After deciding on the moodboard, i proceed my progress on doing the script. I was responsible for drafting the script from scene 20 to 42. After that, Yanny continue the others and refined the script together with the estimated animation timing.

REFINED SCRIPT

SOUND EDITING

After animation team completed their animation progress, I proceed into the sound editing.

Figure 1.1 Completed Animation

In this stage, I was responsible to add in sound effects and edit the final video. I started to do some research and compiling all the sound effects needed for the video.

After waiting for the animators to complete the animation and compiling every resource needed, I started to edit the video in Adobe Premiere Pro. I started to add the sound effects that I have research mostly from Youtube. I just needed to add it according to the storyline. Besides, I also added in voice over by Yanny and Winnie in the video. I did the overall editing after I have complete with all the SFX and BGM.

REFLECTION

Working on Final Project which is Animated Infographic Video have been a fun ride where I got to learn how illustrate and animate information clearly. Besides, it was new experience as it was my first time learning how to animate an infographic to be more presentable and which kind of design or layout would present a clearer visual to the audiences. Moreover, we have the opportunity to analyze and explore how other professional designer's work present their infos and the reason behind its layout. This project was challenging yet interesting for me as I need to combine and arrange all the information needed yet still express creativity in a page however with the guidance I got from Mr Fauzi, Mr Shamsul and my friends, I managed to finish the tasks.
