INTRODUCTION

PROJECT 3 ⇒ POST PRODUCTION

For our third project, Mr Fauzi introduced Post Production to us where we need to finalise all visuals, complete mapping on model, finalise AR content and create a documentation based on the project.

LEARNING MAPPING

Mr Fauzi introduce a new software which is Resolume Arena and starts to give a demonstration on how to use the software to do mapping. He explained that Resolume Arena functions similarly to a video player, but with the added capability of positioning and layering multiple videos across different areas of the screen, offering greater flexibility for live visual performances and projection mapping. After a few weeks of practicing, Sue Zhiun and I became more familiar with the software.

TRIAL MAPPING

After finalizing all the visuals, Sue Zhiun and I began working on the projection mapping for our model. Over the course of several weeks, we continuously alternated between refining our animations and adjusting the mapping to fit the physical model accurately. One of the challenges we faced was the limited access to the projector, as it was borrowed and couldn’t remain in a fixed setup. Each time it was brought in or out, the position had to be recalibrated, which affected consistency. Despite these constraints, Sue Zhiun and I collaborated closely and adapted to the situation, making ongoing improvements to both the animation and the projection throughout the process.

FINAL MAPPING

After a few weeks of refining and mapping, we finally finalised our mapping. (Hooray🎉🎉) Besides, we also added audio to the background to make it more immersive.

AUGMENTED REALITY (AR)

For this project, we wanted to implement AR too. Therefore after practising with Sue Zhiun a few times on mapping, we split our task to she focus more on finalising the mapping while I focus more on AR. I was quite nervous and excited at the same time as I have 0 AR knowledge on how to build it yet it was new experience for me so yeahhh. I tried not to pressure myself too much therefore decided to do a simple AR which is building a hibiscus pop out interaction for the Merdeka theme.

I wanted viewers to help decorate the model with our national flower, the hibiscus to interact and let them feel involved with the Merdeka festive celebration. To build the AR, I decided to use 8th Wall which was recommended by Mr Fauzi during ideation stage as my main building platform. I went online to research on tutorials on how to make my idea come to life.

used the 8th Wall web-based platform and adapted the existing "Hello World – Cactus" template as a starting point. The AR interaction was kept intentionally simple to suit the overall experience and technical constraints. I replaced the default cactus model with a 3D hibiscus flower, aligning with the project's thematic visuals. The AR feature was triggered by user interaction therefore when the viewer tapped the screen, a hibiscus flower would pop up on the digital interface, creating a responsive and engaging layer of interactivity. This lightweight AR addition provided an accessible and mobile-friendly enhancement to the physical installation.

DOCUMENTATION

After completing and finalising the mapping and the AR, Sue Zhiun and me proceed to the final documentation stage in Canva. We added in all the visuals and final outcome as well as the weekly progress for the project.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 14

  • Mapping looks good
  • Try to record a few views for documentation

REFLECTION

Working on Post Production has been a fun ride where I got to enhance my skills and knowledge in creating and animating. Besides, it was new experience as it was my first time building AR even though it was a basic one. Moreover, we have the opportunity to analyze and explore different type of related projects and see how profesional share their knowledge in the specific field. This project was challenging yet interesting for me as I need to combine creativity and animation skills however with the guidance I got from Mr Fauzi and my friends, I managed to finish the tasks.
