INTRODUCTION

PROJECT 2⇒ PROJECT MANAGEMENT REPORT

For project 2, Mr Kamal introduced Project Management Report to us where we need to produce a comprehensive Project Management Report that captures the full journey of your project, from research and concept development (Project 1) to the final production stage (Final Project).

The report should document weekly progress, consultation feedback, and key milestones, illustrating how your team managed the creative workflow, maintained consistency, and solved design problems throughout the semester.

DOCUMENTATION

This stage of the EMO:TION project focused on compiling and structuring the project management report to clearly communicate the planning, progress, and decision-making behind the project. The aim was to translate our design journey into a coherent document that reflected both creative development and practical project management considerations.

We began by consolidating the project overview, clearly outlining the concept of EMO:TION and its focus on emoji-based emotional communication. This section helped establish the foundation of the project and ensured that the purpose and scope were clearly defined. We then connected the project to relevant UNSDG and community issues, identifying how emotional expression and communication relate to broader social contexts. Defining the target audience at this stage helped clarify design decisions and ensured that both the card game and digital experience were tailored to user needs.

The proposed creative solutions section allowed us to articulate how branding, the card game, and the website functioned together as a unified system. By documenting these solutions, we were able to reflect on how each component supported the overall objective of encouraging emotional expression through playful interaction. This also helped us identify overlaps and ensure consistency across platforms.

Figure 1.1 Project Timeline & Key Milestone

A significant part of the report focused on planning and structure. The project timeline, key milestones, and Gantt chart were developed based on our weekly progress, allowing us to visualise the workflow and track development stages from research to final production. Reviewing our weekly progress in this format highlighted how iterative design and regular evaluation influenced the direction of the project and allowed adjustments to be made when challenges arose.

We also documented the tools and platforms used throughout the project, including design, prototyping, and collaboration tools. This section reflected how digital platforms supported teamwork, version control, and efficient communication. Clearly defining team roles further strengthened the report, as it demonstrated accountability and highlighted individual contributions to the project’s success.

Finally, the reflection section brought together insights gained from both the design and management aspects of the project. Writing this report reinforced the importance of planning, time management, and documentation in supporting creative work. It also highlighted how structured project management helped the team stay aligned despite tight timelines and evolving design challenges. Overall, producing the project management report allowed us to better understand the relationship between creative design and organised workflow, completing an essential layer of the EMO:TION project.

REFLECTION

Working on the project management for EMO:TION helped me understand how essential planning and organisation are in supporting a creative design process. By developing the project overview, timeline, milestones, and weekly progress documentation, I gained a clearer view of the project’s scope and requirements. Structuring the workflow early made it easier to manage tasks across branding, the card game, and the website, while ensuring the project stayed aligned with its objectives.

Throughout the process, I learned the importance of flexibility and communication when managing a team-based project. Adjusting timelines in response to feedback, technical challenges, and overlapping deadlines required continuous evaluation and collaboration. Defining roles and responsibilities improved coordination and reduced confusion, especially during high-pressure periods. Reviewing weekly progress also encouraged accountability and helped the team identify areas that needed immediate attention.

Overall, this experience strengthened my time management, planning, and organisational skills. It showed me that effective project management does not restrict creativity but instead provides a structure that allows ideas to be developed efficiently and realistically. The skills gained from this process will influence how I approach future design projects, particularly in balancing creative exploration with practical constraints and deadlines.
