For this task, we are required to do

  • some visual references (cite the sources) that inspire your own ideas
  • 3-5 sketches (manual/digital) of your own ideas
  • final design in A4 size, JPEG
  • a rationale, in about 150-200 words, explaining/defending the decisions made in your design, the meaning/purpose of the design and the design principles that

RESEARCH

DETAIL EXPLANATION

1. Overall layout for the art piece
  • I have chosen a chiaroscuro theme and divided my art piece into two parts, one fill with bright and various colors trees, flowers and clean healthy grass. While the other is fill with darker colors containing a filthy bloody hands, lifeless trees and polluted sand fill with wastes like aluminum, plastic, dry leaves and pebbly bumpy surfaces.
2.  Overall contrast for the art piece
  • The bright colorful forest imitates the outcome of a beauty lively nature if we human being have defended for the resources ‘mother nature’ has once provided us. While the darker lifeless part imitates the outcome of a lifeless polluted forest with nothing left but a waste land.
3. Wastes
  • The aluminum, plastics and tins imitate the pollution human have created.
4. Filthy bloody hand and red strings
  • The filthy bloody hands and the red strings pulling the trans-human imitates corrupted leaders, obstacles and uncertain factors pulling the string behind causing climate change and global warming.
5. Trans-human
  • The human in the center has some of its body parts wrap around with aluminum imitates the diseases and the aftermath of climate change has caused.
6. Trans-human's position
  • The trans-human is designed in a moving position and the overall design is incline as I would like to express that in the current generation, climate action has started to have an impact to us. For example, government implementing the 5R project and environment campaigns. However, there are still space and improvement needed to take for us to head to the next step and a brighter future.

RATIONALE

In recent years, climate change has posed one of the most significant threats to our planet. Therefore, I would like to express the importance of climate action. Through the art piece, I chose a chiaroscuro theme as I would like to express the differences between a bright harmonical and a filthy depressed future if action were or weren’t taken. For a key element as an emphasis, I placed a trans-human in a moving position in the center. The trans-human who’s being hold back by red strings tied to a corrupted bloody gigantic hand is struggling to walk up the bumpy incline hill to cross over to the other side as I wanted to express the obstacles and uncertain factors we need to overcome, like corrupted leaders and the persistency by human in taking care of our planet. I also designed the human to be a trans-human as I wanted to highlight that, the climate change would affect us too besides the environment. Besides, I would like to spread the message that, nevertheless that we have an uphill battle up ahead, we should fight till the last man stands as the decisions to have a better future fall in our palms.
